CARE Tanzania has embarked on the process of developing medium term strategy for Gender equality and women empowerment unit to guide its programming on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment as a way to promote women economic empowerment, gender equality and address social injustices affecting women in rural Tanzania. The process has evolved from the country office strategy – WEZESHA, which aims at having vibrant, equitable and resilient rural communities where women are empowered to realize their social, political and economic rights and natural resources are sustainably managed in a changing climate.
The Gender Equality and Women Empowerment strategy will focus on the following thematic areas:
- Women's rights and gender equality with special emphasis on access and control over productive resources
- Women entrepreneurship
- Financial inclusion
In order to get our thinking together around the Strategy we had a small workshop involving all of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment unit. And our old friend Koku from Ekama development who is the lead consultant. The team came together to fine tune the vision, theory of change and develop some outcomes. They expect to have a final draft ready in the next month.
